Lovettsville Montessori is in search of an Elementary guide in a Montessori classroom serving children ages 6 to 12 years old for the 2024-2025 school year.

The candidate should be kind, patient, work well as a team member, and have a positive attitude. This is a great place to work with others who want to help children work toward their potential, academically, socially, physically and emotionally. We encourage our team members to challenge themselves and grow in the position. Your talents and skills will be valued. The children are wonderful and the families are supportive.

The Montessori Elementary Guide will be responsible for preparing the environment for the different levels of development for the elementary child, promoting independence and a love for learning.

Lovettsville Montessori School is a school that promotes an outdoor education. The children have created an outdoor classroom, and they can choose to spend much of their day outside with their Montessori materials, reading, writing, playing music or playing games. The Montessori guide should feel comfortable being outdoors and being active. We have a great deal of opportunities to go out and about for PE or other activities as we are located near the Appalachian Trail, the C&O canal towpath, the Potomac River and other natural and historical locations. We are also within walking distance of the public library, a grocery co-op and local community center, which the elementary students walk to regularly.

The Elementary Guide should have experience and an understanding of Montessori pedagogy and will have an easy nature with their students. They should have good written and spoken communication skills to communicate with the children, lead the children as a group and individually and communicate by email and in person with the parents of the children. They will guide the children through the educational goals and prepare and present lessons individually or in groups.

Skills we are looking for:

  • Interest in being outdoors
  • Cooking and baking with the children
  • Eager to keep a clean and orderly classroom environment
  • Able to correct and encourage children in a calm and positive tone of voice

You will also represent the school to the families of the children and potential families in positive ways.

Candidates will need to successfully complete state required background checks, CPR/First Aid training and at least 16 hours of professional development throughout the year. (We will help you with this.)

Hours are 8:00 – 4:00, Monday – Friday. We are in session late August to early June.
