Jennifer Shields is a primary trainer for the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI). She holds both the AMI Primary and Assistants to Infancy diplomas. Jennifer earned a B.A. in English Literature from Georgetown University and an M.Ed. from Cleveland State University. She worked for over fifteen years in Montessori schools as a teacher, assistant, and administrator. She is an examiner and consultant for AMI and presents at workshops and conferences locally and worldwide. Jennifer loves observing in classrooms, coaching teachers and teacher trainees, and spreading the insights made by Dr. Montessori.

Naoko is an experienced and innovative AMI primary trainer. She grew up in Tokyo, Japan and received her BA in childhood education from Tokyo Gakugei University and an M.Ed. from Loyola University Maryland. Since 2009, Naoko has trained adults in the Philippines, Japan, China, and the US on assistant, foundation, and primary courses. Naoko is also an AMI/USA consultant and lives in Baltimore with her husband, Frank.

Tuition: $13,000
A $500 non-refundable tuition deposit is due upon enrollment and will be applied to total tuition.

Early Bird Discount: An early bird discount of $300 is available to those who submit a completed application by April 1, 2024.
Your interview and formal acceptance must be completed by April 1, 2024 in order to qualify. The early bird discount will be deducted from your final tuition payment.

Information sessions, in-person and virtual, will be held on the following dates. Please register and join us to learn more about this Academic Year Primary Course at WMI.

  • Trainees will complete 90 hours of observation (October 14-25 and November 18-29, 2024) and 120 hours of practice teaching (March 10-21 and April 7-18, 2025) off-site. The course will not meet at WMI during these 8 weeks. 
  • Half (45 hours) of the observation can be done in the trainee’s own primary classroom if trainee is a guide or assistant, subject to trainer’s approval. 80 hours of the practice teaching can be done in the trainee’s own primary classroom if trainee is a guide or assistant, subject to trainer’s approval.

Oral examinations are scheduled in conjunction with the Association Montessori Internationale. It is not possible to publish exact dates at this time. Oral examinations will be scheduled during the Summer 2025 Session. Students will be informed as soon as dates are confirmed. All students must be in residence through the last day of the oral examination period, no matter when their individual examination is scheduled. Oral examinations may be scheduled on a Saturday.
