Naoko is an experienced and innovative AMI primary trainer. She grew up in Tokyo, Japan and received her BA in childhood education from Tokyo Gakugei University and an M.Ed. from Loyola University Maryland. Since 2009, Naoko has trained adults in the Philippines, Japan, China, and the U.S. on assistant, foundation, and primary courses. Naoko is also an AMI/USA consultant. She lives in Baltimore with her husband, Frank.

Janet McDonell became a Director of Primary Training at WMI in 1996. In addition to her Primary diploma, she also holds AMI diplomas at the Elementary level and for Montessori Special Education. She has over 20 years teaching and administrative work in Montessori schools throughout the U.S. with children of widely varied backgrounds. In addition, Janet is a past Director of Consultation and Coaching at AMI/USA and also served as a board member of AMI/USA for 6 years. Janet also served as the Head of the AMI Training Group for 10 years. Currently, Janet is a member of AMI/USA’s Consultation Committee.

Tuition: $13,500
A $500 non-refundable tuition deposit is due upon enrollment and will be applied to total tuition.

Early Bird Discount: An early bird discount of $300 is available to those who submit a completed application by March 1, 2024.
Your interview and formal acceptance must be completed by March 1, 2024 in order to qualify. The early bird discount will be deducted from your final tuition payment.

Northwestern Michigan College: Summer Housing will be on a first come first served basis. For North Hall placements, we are seeking those who are requesting accommodation for the entirety of the summer (May 10 – August 8). Please complete the Reservation Request Form as soon as possible. If you are enquiring about a shorter stay that is not the entirety of the summer, limited East Hall accommodations are on a first come first served basis. Please complete the Reservation Request Form as soon as possible.

50% can be done in the trainee’s own primary classroom if trainee is a guide or assistant, subject to trainer’s approval.

Oral examinations are scheduled in conjunction with the Association Montessori Internationale. It is not possible to publish exact dates at this time. Oral examinations will be scheduled during the Summer 2025 Session. Students will be informed as soon as dates are confirmed. All students must be in residence through the last day of the oral examination period, no matter when their individual examination is scheduled. Oral examinations may be scheduled on a Saturday.

WMI is a Candidate in Good Standing with the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education. Candidate in Good Standing status in no way determines the outcome of the accreditation decisions by MACTE.
