Luminary Montessori is a new, authentic Montessori school opening in January 2027 in Hendersonville, Tennessee — serving children from 10 weeks to six years in a beautiful, purpose-built facility, with the operational excellence of the best programs.
Role Summary
The Montessori School Director will lead the school’s educational vision and day-to-day operations as our first and most important hire. You will own building the culture and high standards that help children and staff succeed, Montessori program fidelity, staff hiring and development, the family experience, licensing, and enrollment. At capacity the school will serve approximately 150–175 children, and you will lead a full team of roughly 30–35 staff — administrative, lead teachers, and assistant teachers — reporting to and partnering closely with the founders to launch and grow the school.
Key Responsibilities
• Hire, train, coach, and retain a high-performing teaching team
• Ensure authentic Montessori implementation across every classroom
• Set the vision for each classroom’s prepared environment — selecting age-appropriate furniture and Montessori materials for every age group (Nido, Toddler, and Primary)
• Support, mentor, and evaluate teachers and staff, and lead ongoing professional development
• Own enrollment, family relationships, tours, and community presence
• Manage daily operations, schedules, ratios, and health & safety
• Steward the annual budget, financial oversight, and vendor relationships with the owners
• Lead Tennessee DHS licensing and ongoing compliance
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred
• Montessori credential (AMI / AMS / MACTE) and/or Montessori school leadership experience strongly preferred
• 3+ years of leadership or school-management experience preferred, including hiring, staff development, and budget oversight
• Experience leading a large school or child care center (150+ children) preferred

Role Summary
Infant Community, 10 weeks – 15 months · Full-time
Guide our Nido — the infant community — caring for our youngest children in a calm, unhurried, prepared environment built around freedom of movement, respectful care, and secure attachment. This is the room where a family’s relationship with our school begins.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare and maintain a serene, low-stimulation infant environment — floor beds, open movement space, and natural materials within the child’s reach
• Practice respectful, unhurried care routines — feeding, diapering, and sleep treated as one-to-one moments of connection and language, never as interruptions to be rushed
• Protect uninterrupted freedom of movement; observe and support each infant’s own gross-motor progression rather than positioning or propping
• Observe and record each child’s development, and use those observations to adapt the environment
• Partner closely with parents day to day — feeding and sleep communication, and steady support for families separating from an infant for the first time
• Maintain scrupulous health, hygiene, safe-sleep, and ratio standards
• Mentor and direct an assistant teacher
Qualifications
• Montessori Assistants to Infancy credential (AMI 0–3) or an AMS / MACTE Infant & Toddler credential strongly preferred — credentialing support available for the right candidate
• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred
• Experience caring for infants under 18 months in a group setting
• Deep patience, a calm presence, and genuine comfort partnering with first-time parents

- Prepare a toddler environment scaled to the child — real tools, child-sized furniture, accessible shelves, and orderly sequences that invite independence
- Present practical-life and language activities, and support self-care: dressing, hand-washing, food preparation, and cleaning up
- Support toilet learning in partnership with families, without pressure, charts, or reward systems
- Guide social development and conflict through grace and courtesy rather than time-outs or punitive systems
- Observe and record daily, adapting the environment to each child’s developmental moment
- Partner with families through conferences and daily communication
- Mentor and direct an assistant teacher; maintain health, safety, and ratios
Qualifications
- Montessori Infant & Toddler credential (AMI 0–3 / AMS / MACTE) strongly preferred — credentialing support available for the right candidate
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred
- Experience with children 12 months to 3 years in a group setting
- Calm authority, physical stamina, and genuine respect for toddler autonomy

Guide a mixed-age 3–6 Primary classroom across the full Montessori curriculum — practical life, sensorial, language, mathematics, and cultural studies — protecting the three-hour work cycle and the conditions in which deep concentration becomes possible.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain a complete, beautiful Primary environment across every curriculum area
- Present individualized lessons from the Montessori albums and keep accurate records of each child’s progress through the sequences
- Protect the uninterrupted three-hour work cycle
- Guide the mixed-age community, including third-year (kindergarten) children in their role as classroom leaders
- Observe daily, and let observation rather than a fixed timetable determine what each child is ready for
- Partner with families through conferences and daily communication, and prepare children and families for the transition to elementary

Qualifications
