Race and Racism in Early Childhood Education
10AM – 1PM ET

Due to the pending tropical storms headed our way this weekend, this Workshop will be VIRTUAL only.

Join Howard University Professor Dr. Hakim Rashid as he examines issues related to race and racism in early childhood education.  Dimensions of racism in education will be discussed including cultural racism, institutional racism, individual racism, systemic racism, and dysconscious racism.  Eurocentrism in the PreK-12 curriculum will be examined along with the role of teacher education programs perpetuating racist teacher practices.  Excerpts from the documentary film, directed and produced by Dr. Rashid, “Strange Fruit Redux: The Perils of Young Black Boys in Early Childhood Education” will be shown with participants discussing the implications of issues raised in the film for early childhood educators.

Cost: $100
